For July and August 2027, about twelve months — and that is why a 30/20/50 deposit ladder exists rather than a flat 50%. For April to June and September to November, four to six months is usually enough. For December to March, six to eight weeks is realistic. On a nine-cabin boat the constraint is not the boat, it is the one Master Ocean suite.

Why lead time is a cabin problem, not a boat problem
A 22-guest boat sounds roomy until you count cabin types. There is exactly one Master Ocean, one Signature Ocean and one Family cabin. If your requirement is “the suite with the balcony” or “a room where two adults and two children sleep together”, you are not competing for a boat with 22 berths — you are competing for a single door.

The three Deluxe Ocean cabins are the pressure valve. They are ocean-facing, queen-bedded, ensuite, and there are three of them, which is why they remain available later than anything else in the upper half of the rate card.

How the deposit ladder rewards booking early
Nobody sensibly wants half a charter fee sitting with an operator for twelve months. The ladder exists precisely for that.
How the deposit ladder works
Two structures are in use, and which one applies depends on how far ahead you book.
- Standard booking: 50% to confirm, balance due no later than 30 days before departure. The deposit is non-refundable.
- Booking about a year ahead: 30% to confirm, a further 20% at 120 days before departure, the final 50% at 30 days before departure.
The long ladder exists because peak dates sell out roughly a year in advance and few people want half a charter fee sitting with an operator for twelve months. Ask for the ladder in writing on the confirmation — it is the single most useful sentence in the whole contract.
Read the two structures side by side and the logic is obvious: a standard booking asks 50% now, a year-ahead booking asks 30% now and staggers the rest. On a 3D2N whole-boat charter at USD 5,750, that is USD 1,725 to hold a peak date rather than USD 2,875 — the difference sitting in your account for four more months.

What happens if you have to cancel?
The deposit is non-refundable. That is stated plainly rather than buried, and it is the reason travel insurance belongs in the budget rather than in the “maybe” column. What actually changes between booking twelve months out and two months out?
Three things, in descending order of importance.
- Cabin choice. Late bookings in peak season get whatever is left, which on a nine-cabin boat is a narrow menu.
- Date choice. A specific week in August is a harder ask than a specific week in May.
- Rate year. Rates are set annually. The 2026-to-2027 move on private diving charters was about 15% — 3D2N from USD 9,500 to USD 11,000. Booking under a published rate year is booking under a known number.

When is late booking a good idea?
December to March, honestly. It is monsoon season: the sea is at its roughest, some vessels are in maintenance, and there is genuine cancellation risk. It is also peak manta season, when plankton-rich water brings the highest densities of the year to Karang Makassar and Manta Alley. If you are a diver with flexible dates and a tolerance for a rough crossing, this is the window where six weeks’ notice is enough and the wildlife is at its best.
