Destinations for your Indonesian liveaboard
Indonesia offers a range of liveaboard regions, each with its own season and its own reason to go. Magika sails Komodo National Park out of Labuan Bajo — here is how it compares with the archipelago’s other great cruising grounds.
Four cruising grounds, four different trips
In 2027, Indonesian liveaboard prices typically run from USD 1,100 to over USD 7,400 per person depending on itinerary length, vessel class and destination.

Komodo National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for Komodo dragons and vibrant marine ecosystems. Expect strong currents and a rich diversity of pelagics — manta rays, sharks and reef fish. Key sights: Komodo dragons, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Pink Beach.

Raja Ampat
In West Papua, globally recognised for the highest concentration of marine life on Earth. Calm water and countless islands make it suitable for all experience levels. Key sights: Misool, Wayag, Piaynemo, Dampier Strait.

Banda Sea & Forgotten Islands
Remote, pristine and genuinely exploratory. Volcanic islands and deep-water trenches attract hammerheads; the Forgotten Islands run healthy reefs and schooling fish across the Lesser Sunda arc.

Why Komodo, and why from Labuan Bajo
Komodo is the one region in Indonesia where a three-night trip is genuinely worth taking. The park is compact enough that a phinisi at 8 knots can reach Padar, Pink Beach, a dragon ranger station and a manta cleaning station inside 48 hours — and Labuan Bajo is 1 to 1.5 hours from Denpasar, so you lose almost no time getting there.
Magika’s published programme is Komodo. Raja Ampat runs on the opposite monsoon and is served by a different fleet — the full month-by-month comparison is on Raja Ampat vs Komodo.
